New Petaling Jaya OCPD pledges to keep community ties strong, lower crime index further

PETALING JAYA: Asst Comm Shahrulnizam Jaa'far @ Ismail is the new OCPD here.

He takes over from ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid.

In his farewell speech, ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin said it had been an honour to lead the district police for almost three years.

"It was a valuable experience these two years and 10 months.

"I carried out my responsibilities to the best of my abilities with the support of everyone in the district as well as the leadership at Selangor police headquarters," he said after the handing over of duties ceremony for the post here on Friday (Feb 23).

An emotional ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin said he would always cherish the close relations between the Petaling Jaya police and the community.

"Ensuring the security and safety of 1.2 million people in PJ is not easy and we managed to do so with the support of (the community).

"The district police managed to reduce the crime index for three years from 2021," he added.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, who witnessed the ceremony, praised ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin for his hard work, not only to lower the crime index but to allay the fear of crime in the district as well.

"His report card throughout his tenure as PJ OCPD has all A and A+ scores.

"His leadership raised public confidence in the police force through his commitment to every task," he added, describing ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin as a good example of a senior officer.

"He has a long way to go (in his career) and I am sure he will achieve greater success in the future.

"On behalf of the force, we salute you," he said.

The district is one of three in the state with a reduced crime index this year, he added.

Meanwhile, ACP Shahrulnizam said he would continue to ensure that the people of Petaling Jaya feel safe.

"I have big shoes to fill.

"I take it as a challenge given the high achievements of the district police.

"I will do my best to ensure good governance and forge close ties with the community," he said.
